Intervals of the Harmonic Minor Scale in Seven Positions

In harmonic minor, the 7th degree of natural minor is raised by one semitone, resulting in the intervals root (1), second (2), minor third (m3), fourth (4), fifth (5), minor sixth (b6) and major seventh (j7). To reach these notes in all positions on the guitar neck, seven distinct fingerings are formed and given the names of harmonic church mode I-VII. To move a pattern to a key other than A harmonic minor, use the transposing table.
