Interval Quality
There are five different interval qualities, which are not applicable to every interval:
pure
only applies to simple intervals of fourths, fifths or octaves and their octave doublings (e.g.
compound intervals
like tenths or twelfths),
major
or
minor
applies to seconds, thirds, sixths or sevenths and their
octave doublings
,
diminished
or
augmented
is theoretically applicable to all intervals, but practically these qualities are rare for thirds, sixths and octaves.
