In this exercise the continuous alternate picking (up and down) is performed with a plectrum on each string. While the left hand fingers the note, the right hand mute the string to keep the sound short and crisp (palm mute). This is especially important when using distortion as otherwise too much disturbing background noise would be generated.
The alternate picking exercise is included in the Guitar Lovers Studies PDF or as play along track in the Jamtracks PDF which feature high graphic resolution for printing and integrated sound.
